Home Buyer's Assistance Foundation
The Nebraska REALTORS® Association’s Home Buyer’s Assistance Foundation is a nonprofit organization with a mission to increase affordable, adequate, and decent housing for all first time home buyers in Nebraska, with an emphasis on low and moderate income individuals and communities. It also works to offer housing disaster relief to communities affected by a natural disaster.
Home Buyer Education
Home buyer education is an important step in producing an informed consumer, and home buyers who partake in home buyer education are better equipped to sustain home ownership and less likely to foreclose. The foundation helps to subsidize the costs of home buyer education through the Readiness Education Awareness Collaborative for Home buyers (REACH) program.
First-Time Home Buyer Grants
The foundation awards a $250 grant to select first-time home buyers in an effort to enhance the success of home buyers in maintaining home ownership. Grant recipients will be selected by the Board of Directors of the foundation. There is only one grant per household allowed and recipients must reside in Nebraska. Here are the steps to receiving the grant:
1. Use the services of a REALTOR® to purchase a home within the last six months. Maximum purchase price is $170,000.
2. Complete a home buyer education course through REACH or online education approved by NIFA to complete the closing of the purchased property. NOTE: the Mortgage Guaranty Insurance Corporation (MGIC) course is no longer an approved course for the Home Buyers Assistance Foundation Grant program. You may select from another online home buyer course provider listed when you click on the REACH or NIFA Information link at the bottom of the page.
3. Complete an application available through REACH affiliates upon course completion or by clicking the grant application below and attach a copy of your closing statement and educational certificate.
